The best advice I can give is measure your mid section …
Five stars for the quality of the belt and five stars for customer service. The first belt I ordered was too small so I was able to exchange for the next size up. There seems to be some confusion for how to size this belt as reflected in the comments. The best advice I can give is measure your mid section where you will wear the belt. Even so, I ended up with a belt that was too small. I’ve attached a picture of the belt dimensions between the medium and large belts.
Great for the money. Careful about measuring: read the instructions.
This really should get five stars because it is a fine belt. I sent mine back because even though I was VERY careful to order precisely the right size, I still got one that was too large. This was MY fault. Read the instructions carefully and measure around your belly where this thing will be worn and believe the numbers you get. Thankfully Amazon has enough flexibility to make up for customers like me who sometimes just screw things up. If you need a first quality, abdominal belt there aren’t any that are better than this at the money.
No expert but so far so good!! Glad someone told me to pick one up…….GAINZ being made daily!!
Well I’m not expert when it comes to workout gear or weight lifting belts. Ive only been at this weight lifting stuff for 6 month, prior to that it was mostly cardio/workout DVD’s at home. So after getting into a good routine and with a group of guys who have been at this for a while it was recommended I get a belt for safety as well as assisting with keeping the core tight with certain exercises.
As someone with a long torso and a history of lower back injuries + conditions…I fully endorse this belt.
I’m someone who has a long torso, has had multiple disc ruptures in my lower back/spine over the years, and has also been diagnoses with both spondylosis and scoliosis…and having this belt has been absolutely fantastic. It gave me the the ability AND confidence to go heavier with the lifts I use it for. During my first use, my PR for deadlifting immediately went up 25 pounds.
I’m completely happy
I am so so SO happy with this belt! I purchased this last Thursday and received it the next day. As soon as you open it, you can feel the good quality of the product. It doesn’t have that cheap looking feel or cheap stitching. It is very sturdy and when I tried it on, it had a really good fit. I’m 5’8 about 165lbs and I bought a small because I wanted some extra wiggle room. It worked out perfect for me because I’m still able to fasten it even tighter past my max for extra compression. I have been searching for a good belt and I’m so glad I went with this one. I was stuck between this one and another one and I made the best choice. I’ve had some lower back issues during my lifts because I’ve been out of the game for a while and have slowly been building up strength, but not making the progress I should be because it was taking me forever to recover from my lower back soreness :(. However, after using this for the very first time on Saturday, I was finally able to squat much heavier than my usual and go below parallel because of the added support the belt gave me, and no soreness! :). I’m completely happy.
Sturdy, comfortable belt.
Got the large size after the medium could barely get around me. I recommend you measure around the belly button, and if you’re on the boarder between two sizes, get the larger size. I have never used a belt for weightlifting before, but I’ve been out of the gym for a year and my form has gotten very poor. I have a tendancy to hyperextend my lower back for squats and deadlifts, which both negatively effects my performance and safety. Put the belt on yesterday after having not lifting in 3 months (and having not lifted regularly in over a year) and easily lifted the most I’ve ever done. I probably could have added 40lbs on top of my all-time max weight, but didn’t want to overdo it the first day. This helps support my back and correct my posture. It is also a good fit, and the buckle doesn’t bite into me too much at the bottom of the squat. Being a uniform width all around makes is very comfortable, and the 4 inch size allows me to push into it hard (I’m 6′ tall). Haven’t tried it for deadlifts yet, but I expect similar results.
Solid, durable on first impression weight lifting belt.
Used this a couple times so far because I was tired of using the broken, down community belts that are probably full of ringworm. This belt is better than most, and everything seems solid about it. I much prefer the prongs over velcro that wears out and can pop off when exerting. Some people will prefer a 3″ belt but the 4″ doesn’t dig into me when deadlifting. If you have a shorter torso then you will want to try this on and see if you would prefer a smaller one. Also some prefer a single prong since it is easier to take on and off, but I tend to leave mine on the entire time and I didn’t really have an issue matching up the two prongs.
I am guilty of having used cheap belts all of these years and after I blew my L5 this past year squatting I decided to invest in a sturdy quality belt. After a year of healing I have started slowly getting back into squatting and deadlifting. I haven’t gotten the belt fully broken in yet but I can tell a huge difference between past belts and Dark Iron’s belt. My waist is currently at about 36-36.5” and I regularly use the belt on the 5th set of holes so roughly right in the middle of the adjustment for the medium sized belt. I plan on keeping my lifts under 400lbs for the first 6-8 months and figure the belt should be good and broken in by the time my back is ready to go heavier.
Good Quality Belt
This is a very nice belt, the quality of the leather and stitching is excellent. The best thing about the Dark Iron belt is that it is thin and the leather is soft, due to it’s soft leather it can be cinched very tight with ease. I needed a belt that wasn’t flimsy, provided stability, but not as much stability as a powerlifting belt. It is exactly what I was looking for. Keep in mind this is not meant to be a heavy powerlifting belt. I use this belt when I load 405lbs on the bar when squatting or deadlifting, no belt prior to that. This belt provides excellent core stability. When I move up to heavier weights, over 545lbs I will use a heavy duty powerlifting belt.
Excellent choice for heavy or light weights
Wow…. had my reservations when I first saw it. (Looked thin…uncomfortable….etc) However after wearing it, everyone is ABSOLUTELY right…! This belt is GREAT… It definitely is not as thick as some of the other belts advertised. Thinner than any I have ever worn before, however this belt is perfect. It fits snug and doesn’t give any while lifting. It has a suede-type interior and is very comfortable. When you get up over 400 pounds it doesn’t cause pinching or slide up on you …. I highly recommend this belt. I’ve only had a few days but if there are any changes I will post. PS… unconstitutional lifetime warranty. Yeah….!
