Recumbent exercise bikes have long been terrific workout accessories, but they're usually somewhat bulky, making them inconvenient for people with small homes or apartments. Enter the Exerpeutic 400XL recumbent bike, which folds up for easy storage and fits inside a closet, corner, or other compact space. It's the easiest way to enjoy the benefits of a recumbent workout without dedicating an entire room to your exercise equipment.
Despite the space-saving design, the 400XL is plenty powerful, with a precision-balanced flywheel and a quiet V-belt double-drive transmission system. The bike also includes an eight-level magnetic tension control system so you can find the right resistance for your training goals. It's easy to monitor your workout progress via the easy-to-read LCD display, which tracks your distance, calories burned, time, speed, scan, and heart rate. Best of all for frequent exercisers, the 400XL's semi-recumbent design is inviting and comfortable, making it ideal for people who dislike upright-style bikes or who are recovering from injury. Add in a large seat cushion and backrest and you have a great bike for riders of any size and body type.
Other details include extendable leg stabilizers; a hand pulse sensor for reading your heart rate; a three-piece, high-torque crank system that provides a smooth, consistent pedaling motion; large pedals with safety straps; and transport wheels for mobility.

One heck of a quiet workout!
As an apartment dweller I was so pleased to find this (thanks Sky Mall magazine for the idea, but bigger thanks to Amazon for having it at a great price with super saver shipping too). To be honest I was skeptical as to how sturdy this product would be and as to how much of a workout it would give. I have not been disappointed at all and in fact more pleased than I thought I’d be.
Good bike for a great value
I just received and assembled my Exerpeutic 400XL folding recumbent bike, and I am impressed. The build quality is at or even a bit above what I was expecting for a $149 piece of exercise equipment. The only thing that makes it look a bit cheap, in my opinion, is the way the wires are routed outside of the bike, however, it does make sense for easy access to the various connectors.
The Exercise Begins with Assembly! 🙂
Read A LOT of reviews before going with this. Influenced by its ratings, size, price, semi-recumbent and ability to fold up for storage.
I wanted something that I could use in the living room while watching TV that was compact and could move out of the way easily.
This is Mrs. Howard and I purchased this bike in April 2014 so I’ve had plenty of time to use it and form an opinion before writing my review. I wanted something that I could use in the living room while watching TV that was compact and could move out of the way easily. This bike delivers everything I wanted. I’m really glad there were so many other reviews online when I originally went to purchase this bike and I have to agree.
I’ve owned this bike for about 2 years
I’ve owned this bike for about 2 years and it’s still works great. i think my only complaint is that it’s designed in a way that you are not meant to pedal backwards. (Why would anyone pedal backwards you ask? Well my brother is a Physical Therapist and pedaling backwards is good for exercising the other muscles that get ignored.)
Very Impressed! A real deal for the money.Excellent quality. Great workout
I’m totally impressed by this bike for both quality of construction and the incredible value for the price. I’m a personal trainer and mechanical engineer and from both perspectives I’m extremely satisfied. It’s very quiet during use, no vibration, shaking or strange noises…..yet. (I’ve only had this a few days and know enough about mechanical devices that one sunny day doesn’t make a summer so I’ll report back in the future). This bike has very smooth “V-belt double drive transmission” which works great and in my opinion just as smooth as the wide range of very expensive commercial bikes I’ve trained on.
