Squeaks and clicks after first 30 minutes of use-leg broke @ 3 months

Good for the price-ish. Started squeaking and clicking after first 30 minutes of use. Understanding this is a low to mid end unit, I purchased it expecting to get 5-6 years of use out of it. Now I’m not so sure. Hoping it’s not something that’s going to get even worse doing more permanent damage. Will give updates.
The unit is nicely packaged and not too difficult to remove from the …

**UPDATE** As per a lot of the reviews, the machine does squeal a bit. It started after about the 4th use. Personally I don’t really care because I got a pretty quality elliptical for under $500 and I listen to my headphones pretty loud anyway, so it drowns out the squealing.
I totally totally would recommend this elliptical from Schwinn

I totally totally would recommend this elliptical from Schwinn. We bought the same model 7 years ago (from Amazon as well). It lasted for all that time, and decided to get a new one as the arm had completely broken off. No other problems all that time. I love the program upgrades, the “onboard” fan and that you can program it for multiple users. No more switching the data and personalized settings back and forth from when I use it after my husband (and vice versa). Easy assembly and always great support from Schwinn. The only complaint I have is that there aren’t clear instructions on how to navigate through the different programs.

I’ve had this 430 Elliptical for a month now, I had no problems putting it together, but did need my wife to hold some parts while I bolted them together, I have not had any problems with noise like some, but I bought some silicone spray to put on the rollers, and rails, you can use Silicone grease too, the speakers work good with my I Phone, but not crazy about the fan on the elliptical, I just use my wind machine it puts out more air, over all a good machine at a good price, if you are mechanically inclined, and can follow instructions save the money that it cost to put it together, and do it yourself, I started by setting all the parts out to make sure I had everything, all the parts were marked with a letter so its pretty easy to follow the instructions, but you will need someone to help with one step in the instructions the rest you should be able to do yourself, and make sure you have at least a 4′ by 8′ area that should give you enough room to operate the elliptical without any obstructions, and put it together in the room where you’re going to use it’s not something you can move if you have small doors between rooms, I would have to take mine a part if I needed to move it, also it’s pretty heavy so you would need two people to move it, hope this helps out anyone thinking about buying this item.
Good Elliptical for the Price

First let me say that it is a bit frustrating that the price dropped $100 a few weeks after I bought this. This was relatively simple to put together, although there were a few steps that would have been easier with two people. I bought this elliptical because: (a) It’s above average but well below $1000, (b) is a lot lighter than some units (my old one was over 200 lbs and very difficult to move), (c) the total length is shorter than some of the larger units (my old one was 7 ft long and took up way too much space), and (d) the stride is not too short (my first elliptical was very inexpensive, but the stride was too short). Slightly annoying that it can’t display the current length of the work out, and the speed at the same time. I keep the display on my speed so that I don’t slow down too much, but switch back to total time. Although, the top display shows the total time gone by in 2-minute increments. I taped a piece of paper to the top display to mark every other minute since it’s difficult to ballpark the total time elapsed while working out. The thing that really bothers me is that I can’t figure out how to set the resistance level **before** starting a workout. I can’t seem to set the resistance until I start the time… which is not easy if I’m holding hand weights. The default resistance level is 4, but I’m currently using 10 (out of 20). I took up the elliptical handles because I was bumping into them when using hand weights (I almost slammed my fists into the handles a few times. Also, the handles snagged my shirt a few times. Minor issue: I wish the power cord was in the back of the unit instead of the front. I had to use an extension cord to plug the elliptical into an outlet – this would have been way easier if the power cord was in the back – it should be obvious that the front of an elliptical will face the furthest from the wall.

Item arrived well within the delivery window. There is a lot of foam packing. I carried the individual parts down to my basement. Much of the hardware, ie screws, washers, lock washers, are already fastened to their designated place which made it easy. The remaining hardware was neatly organized on a blister pack and conspicuously labeled. The tools provided are all that you will need. The assembly took me 2 1/2 hours. I consider myself mechanically inclined. The directions, for the most part, were simple and clear. I did get confused as whether or not to use two of the crinkled “F” washers on the upper arms. I ended up using one on each side and that seams to be sufficient. Installing the plastic cover over the mast is a bit tricky. It has to be positioned just right in order to slide it over the rectangular mounting plate. Connecting the wiring harness involves a bit of an acrobatic stance to install. You have to hold the mast while trying to connect the harness without letting the lower connector slide out of your fingers and dropping down into the machine. All in all the assembly went smooth. The electronic console is very impressive. It has a cooling fan that does a nice job keeping you cool during the workout. It has options that compare with fitness club machines. Like others who have commented, mine too has an occasional squeaking sound. I noticed it starting to make noise on the second day. It sounds like something rubbing on the shroud. I do not believe it is anything major. This is a very good deal for $500.00 dollars. I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Decent price/quality tradeoff with same caveats
Decent price/quality tradeoff with same caveats. Owned an older 430 model for 10+ years with no complaints. This newer 430 weighs more, comes in a much bigger box, has nicer machined parts, but seems sensitive to less-than-perfect leveling. This was not an issue on older model.
