The answer for secretary spread…
First, you do NOT need to pay for assembly. It comes assembled in its portable mode. You only have to move rubberized cord that keep the pedals tight to the base and re-attached the hydraulic pieces. No tools are needed! Well you do need a penny if you want to adjust the resistance setting. Second, this is one serious piece of equipment that is impossible to break. You may want to have a rubber mat to protect your floor. So far, I have part of the box protecting my ceramic tile.
why buy giant home equipment when you can have this?
I don’t think I bought mine on amazon but the price looks the same as when I bought it maybe 5-7 years ago? I’ve been using a treadmill the last 7 years under my desk and it finally went kaput so I dusted this off and am using it again. Treadmills don’t work the same muscles so this is a bit different but I want my knees strengthened anyways. Until I get my muscles built up I’m not doing any high intensity stuff but I can use it while I’m typing or do a brief period of faster stepping while I’m waiting on the computer. I think it’ll work out better without the floor space and hassle of a treadmill. If I ever have to get a job in a real office I’m taking it with me every day and asking for a standing desk. This thing will not break, that’s why I invested the money, buy it once and have it last a life time. About the same price as any floor space hogging piece of home gym equipment and way more portable. I have a granny walker (can pick those up cheap at Goodwill) that I use for stability if I want to bend over and go fast but otherwise it’s great for use standing at a desk. At the price you pay you’ll never consider giving it away, you’ll guilt yourself into using it.
* Update March 7th 2016 * – Great cardio product for your home gym OR apartment.
I never owned a stepper so I can’t compare this against other units in the market but personally I consider this a great buy. I have spent a lot of time on treadmills and eliptical machines at the gym and now just do speed rope at home for a aerobic workout and I would consider this a great alternative.
Would highly recommend.
Great little stepper. Have been using it regularly, it’s very small and quiet. I had an old yoga mat i cut to fit as a base and have no fear of scratching when i use it on hardwood floor. Very adjustable in terms of intensity and work up a sweat in 10 minutes. Have been doing 45+minute sessions on it while doing online things at my standing desk. Would highly recommend.
I work in Africa and purchased a cheap stepper a few months because we don’t have a gym and I needed to stay active. As stated it was a cheap stepper and after using it for 30-45 a day one of the welds snapped off and I had to toss it into the trash. I immediately looked online and found this one but was initially concerned with the price since the first one didn’t last. I can say you get what you pay for. I’ve used it everyday for well over a month now and it works just like it did the first time I got on it. This unit is solid and I don’t see myself having any issues with it. I’d definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a portable stepper to actually work out with. I say this cause some of the cheaper ones aren’t intended for using daily for a good workout. You won’t be disappointed.
Everything it says it is
After reading lots of endorsements, Amazon reviews, and watching youtube videos I decided I wanted this. I work FT and have a long commute and even though the gym is close by, changing clothes and making it there has not been happening. I align with lower carb/paleo thinking for weight loss and I believe that diet is 90% of the weight loss process, but I actually enjoy the feel of challenging exercise (and the after burn/muscle improvement) so the idea of burst or HIIT training plus a piece of equipment I could keep in the livingroom or extra bedroom without rearranging the furniture all sounded great to me. I’ve had it for almost two weeks and used it about 5 times- we went away for four days and I didn’t bring it with me but next time I might. I do 7 minutes including just 4 total minutes on the xiser- a minute burst, a minute rest, repeat. I am very overweight and have no problem with balance or the feel of the machine- it is super strong and very smooth. If you let your feet hit bottom on a stride you will hear a metal-on-metal clank but you’re not supposed to hit so if anything it tells you to adjust your stride. The foot pedals are wide enough and long enough; the only small complaint which will perhaps become less noticeable once I start losing weight again is that the pedals themselves are definitely closer together than any machines I’ve used at the gym. To put a fine point on it, if you’re bigger your thighs are pretty close together- however, it still works fine and gives me a real sweat after those four minutes are up and I feel the muscle burn for the next two days, just like I do when I do 30 min on an elliptical. Bottom line is that it’s a high quality machine and works perfectly for the type of exercise it was designed for.
More than just a stepper
Since badly spraining my ankle three months ago, I have not been able to work out. Cannot jump, run, or do anything that would put direct pressure on my left foot.
I’d happy pay an extra $100 for that
Solid quality! One tiny complaint. I’m tall and I have long legs. I wish they made this in a version that had 4 more inches of stepping stride. I’d happy pay an extra $100 for that. But otherwise it’s a really nice product.
Not just for "Short Bursts" – Can be used for a sustained effort if that is what you are looking for
My husband bought this Xiser for me. I’ve got to say that this is a serious piece of exercise equipment and is perfect for my unique circumstances. I’m a 58 year old avid backpacker* and I need to maintain cardiovascular conditioning as well as quad strength between trips. Unfortunately, my knees won’t let me run anymore so I need something low impact. I used to rely on a Precor elliptical at the gym with the cross ramp all the way up and the tension as high as I needed it to keep my heart rate above 140 ppm for an hour. The issue is that we are now retired and live/travel full time in a modest sized motorhome. I can’t go to a gym anymore and we don’t have the space or the ceiling height for an elliptical.
Solid machine, good workout
Me: overweight and inactive. The Xiser: Sturdy and always ready for a quick workout.
